Retail & RFID Integration | Bucharest, Romania
Join PSS on a long-term international retail project, working on an existing platform that connects cloud services, in-store systems, mobile applications and hardware devices.
At PSS - Prosoft Solutions, you will join an experienced software development team working on international projects in the retail industry.
We are expanding our team for a long-term collaboration with an international technology company developing advanced retail and self-checkout solutions. One of the first areas you will be involved in is an RFID-based solution designed to automatically identify shopping carts during different stages of the shopping and checkout process.
The solution already has an initial implementation. Your role will focus on understanding the existing architecture and codebase, working with development and test environments, validating the solution with real devices, troubleshooting integration issues and further developing the functionality based on real-world scenarios.
What you will be working on
· Analyse and understand an existing Java-based system and its end-to-end business flows.
· Develop and enhance backend functionality and system integrations.
· Work with REST APIs and services involved in retail and checkout workflows.
· Participate in the integration of software with in-store devices and RFID-based identification systems.
· Set up, configure and troubleshoot development and test environments.
· Investigate issues across multiple system components and identify root causes.
· Extend existing functionality and implement new business scenarios and edge cases.
· Write and maintain unit and integration tests.
· Participate in technical and design reviews together with Product, Development and QA teams.
· Work with user stories and contribute to their technical analysis and refinement.
· Collaborate directly with international technical and product teams.
What we are looking for: We are looking for a software engineer who is comfortable working with existing systems, investigating technical issues and taking ownership of assigned development tasks.
· 4+ years of solid professional experience in Java software development, with proven hands-on expertise in building and maintaining Java applications.
· Strong experience with Java and Spring / Spring Boot.
· Experience designing and consuming REST APIs.
· Good understanding of software architecture and distributed systems.
· Experience working with relational and/or non-relational databases.
· Experience with unit and integration testing and a strong focus on software quality.
· Experience working with Git and modern software development workflows.
· Experience working in Agile development teams.
· Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, including the ability to investigate unfamiliar systems and existing codebases.
· Ability to understand technical requirements in the context of business processes and translate them into reliable software solutions.
· Good communication skills and the ability to work directly with international technical and product teams.
· Fluent English, both written and spoken.
Nice to have
· Hardware/software or IoT integrations.
· RFID technologies or other device identification technologies.
· Retail, POS, self-checkout or in-store systems.
· Mobile or Android-related integrations.
· Docker and containerized environments.
· CI/CD pipelines and automated build/test processes.
· Integration testing involving external devices or services.
Previous RFID experience is not mandatory. We are primarily looking for a strong software engineer who can understand existing systems, learn new technologies and take ownership of technical problems from investigation through implementation and validation.
How we work
We work in Agile teams and are involved throughout the software development lifecycle - from requirement analysis and technical discussions to development, testing and delivery.
Our developers take responsibility for the quality of their work, including unit and integration testing, while collaborating closely with QA and Product teams. The project involves direct collaboration with international colleagues and software that interacts with real retail environments, devices and business processes.
